Learning Statistics through Social Justice

The focus of this project is to develop and implement lessons for high school students to learn statistics concepts through the context of social justice issues in collaboration with Education Development Center (EDC), a global nonprofit organization. The goal of this project is to create lessons that would

• Help high school students develop statistical thinking and scientific argumentation skills with quantitative data
• Motivate high school students to see the importance of statistics by discussing topics that students are interested in and using real data

The importance of this project:

• There is need to engage high school students with statistics and quantitative data analysis
• The National Council for the Social Studies C3 Framework emphasizes concepts that align with the investigative process put forth in the Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE):

  3. Analyze Data
  4. Interpret Results
